Germans Do The Darndest Things

Alex was sent the hilarious image above, taken from a collection of Lego-made recreated album covers by a German (?) man named Christoph.

Wow.

Life, weird sometimes.

See the whole collection here, which appears to be largely made up of Belle & Sebastian LPs and EPs, plus some Smiths/Morrissey and, yes, Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

Pains Of Being Pure At Heart At Bowery, May 12

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart played the Bowery Ballroom tonight for the first (and certainly not last) time ever. The show was great and they sold it out easily. It was really crowded and they did a GREAT job and woo woo Alex yay victory.

Sadly for me Alex is going back on tour again to Europe starting tomorrow (boo!! sad!! empty apartment again :-/) but I am lucky that he will playing a show in Berlin on June 5 when I'll be back there for work again, so I look forward to seeing him again then. Wally, I miss you already.

T-Pains

Alex posted this hilarious item on Facebook today that is too silly to not share:

Yeah, so it's basically a sped up version of "Teenager In Love" with T-Pain mumbling over the top and a silly Luda verse about 2:50 in. Pretty much the definition of "novelty", but at least a cute one worth a single listen. (NOT worth a listen though is the Asher Roth mixup that follows it, which I have not and do not plan to investigate.)

UPDATE: Viewer FAIL

I was going to call this a "Carson FAIL" but frankly, I'm the idiot who stayed up til 2:30 am last night watching his show only to NOT see the Pains. Alex Doorknobs, where were you with an update on that one, bro?

Instead I dozed in and out of sleep from 1:30-2:30am while, I believe, Carson stood at a skate park (???!) somewhere and Cold War Kids played in the background. Weird. He also seemed a little skinnier than the last time I remember watching the show in June 2004 (which I watched, oddly enough, because my friend from high school--now a Rockette--was one of his dancers back then).

~~In any event, I await news on when the show will actually air.~~

UPDATE: The Carson Daly show featuring the Pains will air on Friday. Further info here.

The Pains Of Winning At Life

In honor of the Pains flying to LA tomorrow TO PLAY THE CARSON DALY SHOW (erm!!!)### on Wednesday, I thought I'd finally throw up a few shots I took of their last NYC show--sold out--at the Bell House in Brooklyn on March 14.

It's not always easy to take flashless photos at shows (hence the millions of motherfuckers snapping flashes for three hours straight) but the Pains' recent upgrade in show presentation means more lights and therefore better photos. Holla Kuroda! ****

Great songs but it sucks to wait in line for the bathroom!

MORE Pains on Pitchfork

Pitchfork today posted the Pains of Being Pure at Heart entry in Pfork's "A>D>D" series of lo-fi videos shot in ridiculous spaces.

Basically the band gathered in Art Boonparn's bathroom and recorded four (?) songs, two of which are available here now, as well as some ancillary Dude Society video to fill in the rest (some of which was shot by an increasingly "having a good time" yours truly). You may note the appearances and voices of a variety of familiar Doorknobs/Beaumont World associates.

In any event, it was as fun as it looks. And so fucking rad that our dudes are getting out all over the place now! These bros are about to embark on a crazy 12 10 show SXSW stretch and hopefully they come out with a million new (industry) fans.
