Chooglin' and Chooglin'

It's August 6 and my 2009 bike odometer is now up to 1840 miles pedaled since I began pedaling March 14.

For various reasons, this number feels simultaneously large and small. Certainly it represents a significant amount of bicycling--probably 1300 more miles than I rode in all of 2008, and 1800 more than any other year--but it also feels like not so much. I couldn't bring the bike to New Hampshire, and then I've been sick for nine days and didn't bike to work four times last week, and my weekend rides recently have been light....yeah. At this point my summer goal of hitting 2500 miles is looking more likely to happen by late September rather than the end of August. Which is obviously totally fine, and certainly if I haven't biked more because I've been busy with other things then that is great, but I can't help but dwell a little on the degree to which I feel generally unfocused and like I'm struggling to "stay on track" in life (not just with biking, but everything). I know everything is relative and so I know that, for example, I have way more good stuff going on that at any other recent point in my life, but still I would like to somehow streamline and focus my all-over-the-place brain better than I do.

It's still cool though, and all good--I'm taking it slowly and waiting patiently for my brain to settle down and begin chipping away again.
